CHEMINFO - Chemical Information Sources from Indiana University
Well organized and continuously update site lists numerous guides to chemical resources and has many links to educational, biographical, and historical sites.

Chemdex
The University of Sheffield (UK) has continually maintained this "international" directory of chemistry on the Internet".   Contains over 4000 links to chemically related sites.

Horticulture Web Sites

The Garden Helper - aimed at the "less experienced gardener" this encyclopedia contains clearly written, highly accessible articles.

National Gardening Assoication Online Magazine - This site provides selected articles from its magazine plus a good range of other background materials.

Ohio State University Webgarden - This searchable database contains over 4000 fact sheets and 20,000 pages of garden and horticulture information.

Ortho Home - a limited approximation of the book Ortho Problem Solver.
This sties assumes a fairly sophisticated knowledge of insects and diseases.
It also lacks revelant graphics.

Biome Web Sites

Earth Biomes
This self-paced learning module was developed for a special interest in its coverage of variations of each biome, e.g., artic tundra vs. alpine tundra. Environmental dangers are also discussed.

Introduction to Biomes
This site covers the basics like climate, flora, and fauna. There are also detailed reports on the soil, smaller zones within each biome, and animal/plant adaptations.

An Introduction to Coral Reefs
Discusses coral anatomy, types of coral reefs, coral feeding, coral reproduction, and coral diseases. Also, how human threats are affecting the reefs.

Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center
Contains resources which lead to documents about prairie plants and animals from various parts of the world, focusing on North American prairies. There are identification tools, species descriptions, and regional overviews.

What are Wetlands?
This site explains why the why the floods and erosion control, groundwater supply, and water purification is valuable from the Wetlands.

Desert USA: The Desert Environment
Provides specific information on desert geology, wildlife, plants, and cultures. Special features are the North American Deserts (Great Basic, Mojave), along with a glossary of desert and geological terminology.

Natural Resources Defense Council
This a not-for-profit environmental advocacy group, which provides information on conservative ways to deal with trash by recycling.

U.S. EPA's Office of Solid Waste
This is the site of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Solid Waste. They provide infomation on household solid and hazardous wastes, including good overview on source reduction and landfills.

World Resources Institute
Provides eye-opening view of the world-wide waste problems, along with information on resource use and the materials cycle.

Garbage: How can My Community Reduce Waste
This site includes overviews of solid and hazardous waste issues and suggested solutions, most of which are relevant.

Environmental Defense
The organization deals with many issues, such as toxins and solid waste/recycling. Recycling resources are provided.

Program comprised of three federal agencies that aim at reducing waste in homes and on farms.

Household Waste Management
Gives detailed information on the dangers of specific chemicals.

Land-of-Sky Regional Council Household Hazardous Waste delete
A guide to disposal of and alternatives to household toxics. Suggestions nontoxic substitutes for household products like air fresheners, bleach cleanser, and mothballs.

About.com's Recycling Controversies page
Provides links to commentary and rebuttal on both sides of the recycling issue, including studies by various institutions.

U.S. EPA's Pay as You Throw
Includes links to publications, with useful summaries of older journal articles.

Minnesota Office of Environmental Assistance. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
Tips for recycling electronics and barely used household items. Also gives strategies for cutting down household garbage.

Waste Prevention World
Developed by the California Integrated Waste Management Board, this site gives good advice for Landscaping/Organic Gardening and Beyond Waste Prevention.

About.com's Living Simply
Gives background information and resources about the voluntary simplicity movement. The Publications link is broken.
