SOLO ACTING
DI (Dramatic Interpretation) - One or more characters are portrayed to display serious emotional content. Different postures and voices are very important.
HI (Humorous Interpretation) - One or more characters are portrayed to display humorous upbeat content. Different postures and voices are very important.
OC
(Original Comedy) - Original material written by the performer is delivered as either a skit or stand up comedy format. Different voices and gestures are very important. Creativity makes the difference in this event.
Prose
(Prose Reading) - A performer reads a selection from a novel or short story. The performer is allowed to hold a small binder to read from. Emotional rise and fall must be demonstrated.
Verse
(Verse Reading) - A performer reads a selection from one or several poems. The performer is allowed to hold a small binder to read from. Emotional rise and fall must be demonstrated.
DUET ACTING
DDA
(Dramatic Duet Acting) - Two performers act out a serious scene while only using a table and two chairs. Timing and pertinent movement is very important.
HDA
(Humorous Duet Acting) - Two performers act out a humorous scene while only using a table and two chairs. Timing and pertinent movement is very important.
PUBLIC SPEAKING
Ext
(Extempore Speaking) - Speaking where the topic is given to the speaker 45 minutes before the speech is delivered. The speaker then writes and rehearses the speech in the given time and is allowed to use a file of relevant articles from newspapers and magazines.
Imp
(Impromptu Speaking) - Speaking where the topic is given to the speaker immediately before the speech is delivered. The speaker then organizes and delivers their speech in 8 minutes total time.
OD
(Oratorical Declamation) - A speech that someone else has written is delivered by a speaker. Articulation, rise and fall of emotion, and eye contact are very important.
OO
(Original Oratory) - A speech that is written by the performer about a serious relevant topic. Citing of sources and very good speech structure are very important.
SOS
(Special Occasion Speaking) - A speech that is written by the performer about a relevant topic that is meant to inform and entertain. Citing of sources and good speech structure are very important.
RADIO NEWS
Radio
(Radio Speaking) - A short radio news segment must be delivered between 4:50 to 5:05 minutes. International, national, local stories, sports and weather must be integrated to create a pleasing news broadcast. All details of speech are very important.
