"Mary Ann Johnson was a multiple sport athlete who truly excelled in the shot put event of the girls' track and field. As one of our first girl athletes after the implementation of Title IX, she exhibited hard work, determination, and strove for excellence. Her high school career culminated in the spring of 1976 when she was crowned State Champion in shot put. She continues to excel today as a teacher and track and field coach. Her performance on and off the athletic arena helped set the standard of excellence that Conant athletes strive to achieve."

Determination is a word many used to describe Mary Ann. She excelled in every sport she participated in at Conant and at Western Illinois University. Today Mary Ann chose to pursue teaching and coaching due to the role models of Marty Petersen (track coach, P.E. teacher, ), and Barbara Bostian (basketball coach, P.E. teacher,), and the P.E. leaders program Conant offered. Mary Ann continues to mentor many students. As a Physical Education Teacher at Indian Trail Junior High in Addison, and a Track and Field coach at Lake Park High School in Roselle, she helps students be all they can be. |
